Chongqing is one of five municipalities directly under the administration of China's central government. It’s in the southwest of the country, nestled within a circle of rocky ridges, at the confluence of two rivers. A thick fog constantly hangs over the city, giving Chongqing its unofficial title, the "Capital of Fog". The city is also called Shancheng, meaning "City in the Mountains". The jewel of Chongqing, and one of its newest landmarks, is the light railway. It fits perfectly into the complex city and mountain landscape. Another symbol of Chongqing is the famous Chinese hot-pot, which is very hot and spicy. It was originally designed to help boatmen endure freezing winter temperatures. Chongqing today is an important way-point in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. A free trade zone is being established there too, just like in Shanghai and Shenzhen. Chongqing aerial view HD Chongqing (重庆; Chóngqìng), (formerly spelled Chungking), is set to become the most economically important city in West China and is the biggest inland city of the country with plans for even more massive growth. Chongqing is also the launching point for scenic boat trips down the Yangtze River through the Three Gorges Dam. The Buddhist Dazu Rock Carvings are located three hours west of Chongqing City in the outlying Chongqing Municipality and is listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site Chongqing is one of four municipalities in China (large cities that are not part of a province but report directly to the national government, the other three are Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin). Chongqing municipality is technically the largest city in China in surface area. While no longer part of Sichuan province since 1997, it was historically and culturally part of it and still shares the same love for hot and spicy food dishes. Chongqing was temporarily the capital of the Republic of China during World War II, after Nanjing was occupied by the Japanese. The capital was subsequently relocated back to Nanjing after the Japanese surrendered in 1945. Neighbouring provinces: Hubei (east), Hunan (east), Guizhou (south), Sichuan (west), Shaanxi (north) Located on the edge of the Yungui Plateau, and surrounded by small green capped mountains, Chongqing City is intersected by the Jialing River and the upper reaches of the Yangtze. It contains the Daba Shan in the north, Wu Shan in the east, Wuling Shan in the southeast, and Dalou Mountain to the south. site web https://videotubox.blogspot.com/ THANKS FOR WATCHING! http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com It's always something. Beijing Capital Airport is working on its runways and we sat on the plane for a one hour hold. Not only that, flight attendants began serving meals when we finally began to taxi, gave passengers around 1-1/2 minutes to gulp down and whisked the trays away! Just when you think you've seen everything....

Chengdu capital of Sichuan province China Chengdu formerly romanized as Chengtu, is a sub-provincial city which has served as the capital of China's Sichuan province since the elevation of Chongqing to provincial status in 1997. It is one of the six national central cities of China, as well as a major city in Western China. As of 2014 the administrative area houses 14,427,500 inhabitants, with an urban population of 10,152,632. At the time of the 2010 census, Chengdu was the 5th-most populous agglomeration in China, with 10,484,996 inhabitants in the built-up area including Xinjin County and Deyang's Guanghan City. The surrounding Chengdu Plain is also known as the "Country of Heaven" (Chinese: 天府之国; pinyin: Tiānfǔ zhi Guó) and the "Land of Abundance". Its prehistoric settlers included the Sanxingdui culture. Founded by the state of Shu prior to its incorporation into China, Chengdu is unique as a major Chinese settlement that has maintained its name (nearly) unchanged throughout the imperial, republican, and communist eras. It was the capital of Liu Bei's Shu during the Three Kingdoms Era, as well as several other local kingdoms during the Middle Ages. After the fall of Nanjing to the Japanese in 1937, Chengdu briefly served as the capital of China. It is now one of the most important economic, financial, commercial, cultural, transportation, and communication centers in Western China. Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is one of the 30 busiest airports in the world, and Chengdu Railway Station is one of the six biggest in China. Chengdu also hosts many international companies and more than 12 consulates. More than 260 Fortune 500 companies have established branches in Chengdu. In 2006, China Daily named it China's 4th-most-livable city. Sichuan, formerly romanized as Szechwan, is a province in southwest China occupying most of the Sichuan Basin between the Himalayas on the west, the Daba in the north, and the Yungui Plateau to the east. Following Chongqing's elevation to provincial status, Sichuan's capital became Chengdu. In antiquity, Sichuan was the home of the ancient states of Ba and Shu. Their conquest by Qin strengthened it and paved the way for the First Emperor's unification of China under the Qin Dynasty. During the Three Kingdoms era, Liu Bei's Shu was based in Sichuan. The area was devastated in the 17th century by Zhang Xianzhong's rebellion and the area's subsequent Manchu conquest, but recovered to become one of China's most productive areas by the 19th century. During the Second World War, Chongqing served as the temporary capital of the Republic of China, making it the focus of Japanese bombing. It was one of the last mainland areas to fall to the Communists during the Chinese Civil War and was divided into four parts from 1949 to 1952, with Chongqing restored two years later. It suffered gravely during the Great Chinese Famine of 1959–61 but remained China's most populous province until Chongqing Municipality was again separated from it in 1997. The people of Sichuan speak a unique form of Mandarin, which took shape during the area's repopulation under the Ming. The family of dialects is now spoken by about 120 million people, which would make it the 10th most spoken language in the world if counted separately. The area's warm damp climate long caused Chinese medicine to advocate spicy dishes; the native Sichuan pepper was supplemented by Mexican chilis during the Columbian Exchange to form modern Sichuan cuisine, whose dishes—including Kung Pao chicken and Mapo tofu—have become staples around the world. chengdu china points of interest, chengdu china weather, chengdu restaurant, chengdu research base of giant panda breeding, chengdu hotels, chengdu airport, chengdu population, chengdu flights, sichuan sauce, sichuan food, sichuan chengdu, sichuan china earthquake, sichuan pronunciation, sichuan chicken, sichuan province map, sichuan style,

Southwest China's Chongqing municipality has set up a post office named after the Flying Tigers, a U.S. air squadron that helped the Chinese fight Japanese aggressors during World War II. Authorities say the move is to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory of the anti-Japanese war. The Flying Tigers, a group of ex-pilots from the U.S. military, were formed in 1941. Led by Claire Chennault, it flew over China to combat Japanese invaders during World War II, as China's air force was destroyed not long after the war began. On Wednesday, a "flying tiger post office" was opened to the public in Chongqing, a metropolis in southwest China. Postcards sent by this post office will be stuck with General Chennault commemorative stamps and imprinted with a special postmark. And the first postcard issued was sent to General Chennault's wife Anna Chan Chennault in the U.S. at the opening ceremony. SOUNDBITE (CHINESE): DAI QINGBIAO, Curator, Chongqing Flying Tiger Museum "Today marks the 78th anniversary of the start of China's eight-year resistance against the Japanese invasion. We set up this post office to remind the ordinary people of that part of history. Only by remembering national humiliation, can we cherish today's peace." Chongqing was China's wartime capital during WWII, and a command center for the Flying Tigers. Between December 1941 and September 1945, the U.S. volunteer group shot down thousands of Japanese military planes and killed 66,700 Japanese soldiers.

A railway tunnel with the largest cross sectional area in China was completed Tuesday in the country’s northwest Gansu Province after more than seven years of construction. Its maximum cross sectional area is 350 square meters, or 2.5 times the size of common railway tunnels, making it the largest ever constructed in China. The 9,164-meter Xinchengzi tunnel is part of the railway line connecting the province's capital of Lanzhou with Chongqing Municipality in southwest China. The complex geological structure on the northeast edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau where the tunnel stands make the excavation work extremely difficult, according to the tunnel’s contractor, China Railway 11th Group Co., Ltd. The completion of the tunnel will greatly facilitate the operation of the Lanzhou-Chongqing railway line stretching 915 kilometers, said the contractor.
