• Rhythm of Chongqing: A closer look at China's 'Capital of Fog'

Chongqing is one of five municipalities directly under the administration of China's central government. It’s in the southwest of the country, nestled within a circle of rocky ridges, at the confluence of two rivers. A thick fog constantly hangs over the city, giving Chongqing its unofficial title, the "Capital of Fog". The city is also called Shancheng, meaning "City in the Mountains". The jewel of Chongqing, and one of its newest landmarks, is the light railway. It fits perfectly into the complex city and mountain landscape. Another symbol of Chongqing is the famous Chinese hot-pot, which is very hot and spicy. It was originally designed to help boatmen endure freezing winter temperatures. Chongqing today is an important way-point in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative....

This documentary, a Chongqing Television production, narrates the historical links between Chongqing and the Netherlands. It starts at the beginning of the 20th century and covers the wartime years, when the city was China’s provisional capital. Modern Sino-Dutch relations were born at this time, with the establishment of the first Dutch embassy in China in Chongqing. The film eventually reaches the present day and the re-establishment of a diplomatic representation of the Netherlands in Chongqing, marking the beginning of an important new chapter in Sino-Dutch relations.
